I’ve been back from the cruise for a week, but was unwilling to leave vacation mode. Also, I don’t know if it was because I decided to write a hangover blog, or I am closing in on 40, but I haven’t been drinking as much as I used to. I know, I’m sorry, I’ll try harder! Either way, back to why you are here, advice from a non doctor who loves to drink and hates to be hungover.
On the 2nd day of the cruise, we had a day at sea, and of course we had the drink package, so you can imagine what went on. The thing with cruises, versus the rest of your life, is that every place on the ship has something different going on. So, walk through the casino, they give you a mimosa, walk past the Schooner Bar, you get a rum drink, go to the pool and it’s whatever sugary sweet boat drink they are shilling that day, and dinner you drink wine. That means, by the end of that day I had consumed probably 10 drinks, ranging from champagne to vodka, finished off with 3 glasses of red wine. We had an early morning port the next day, and were supposed to meet at 7 AM to get off the boat. Usually just the 3 glasses of red wine would ensure a small headache, but add the other 7 drinks in, combine it with a small dinner, and I was doomed. This time I put all my eggs in the Thrive + basket. I’m sure you have heard of it, they were on Shark Tank, facebook targeted advertising loves them, people rave. I took 3 capsules with water and skeptically went to sleep. A few hours later, I woke up, EXHAUSTED, but not sick. Stomach was fine, head was fine, no shaking at all. It claims you won’t be tired either, but in this case I was soul crushingly sleepy. I walked down to the meeting place for the excursion, discovered we were coming in late, immediately fell back to sleep on the floor of the theater, and slept for another hour. It took a little while to feel wide awake again. But, I would still recommend Thrive +, because at no point did I develop a hangover, and I think if I had managed to go to sleep earlier the night before and get 7-8 hours of sleep I wouldn’t have been so exhausted either. You take 2-3 capsules before you go to sleep, and it has vitamins, and milk thistle. They boast that your liver doesn’t get too much of a work out, your stomach and head will feel ok, and you won’t have detox symptoms like shaking or foggy head. I agree that it does all of those things, except the foggy head, but again, that was likely because of the few hours of rough seas sleep I was able to get that night. I would put it on top for over all cure, but under Nuun Hydration for energy.
I want to take a minute to thank my friends for sending me links for different remedies. I recently purchased Blow Fish and Never Hung Over, and look forward to trying those out in the weeks to come. Maybe I’ll look for a traditional Irish cure for St Patrick’s Day, though I would rather defer to science to ensure Sunday brunch!
Thanks for joining me, drunkies, and may the vodka be ever in your favor.
